Austin’s Autumn of Restaurants
Austin’s restaurant scene is set to expand this fall in an explosive way, with new openings popping up all over the city. North Central Austin in particular will see expansions and new openings. New types of venues are also on the horizon, from food halls to distilleries.
Beloved Austin pizza restaurant Home Slice will open its second location, at East 53rd Street and North Loop, in late fall. This iteration of Home Slice will offer a few things the South Congress Avenue location doesn’t: buffalo chicken wings, a full bar with cocktails, and ample parking.
Over on Shoal Creek Boulevard the first brick and mortar location of Filipino food truck Be More Pacific will open in October. It’s taking over the space once held by Rebel Pizza Bar. And at Shoal Creek and Anderson Lane, a new Mexican-inspired comfort food restaurant, Eldorado, just opened in late August. Eldorado’s founder and head chef Joel Fried is a veteran of Austin institutions Taco Deli and Vespaio.
Rounding out the North Central Austin newcomers scene are Revelry and Brewtorium. Revelry, a family-friendly bar and restaurant, will open a new North Lamar location in late fall with two outside patios; Brewtorium will also open in late fall, near the Highland Austin Community College campus. The brewpub will serve craft beer and in-house made food.
Despite all that activity in and around 78757, other parts of Austin aren’t missing out on foodie action. Still Whiskey Co. will open in mixed-use development The Yard on St. Elmo Road this fall. Austin Eater reports that the Still will be Austin’s first whiskey distillery since Prohibition, and will make its whiskey in house with locally sourced ingredients.

Another first for Austin is also opening in late fall, the food hall Fareground. Fareground, at 111 Congress Ave., is part of a renovation of the lobby and plaza space in the heart of Austin’s central business district. A design team that includes landscape architect dwg. and Michael Hsu Office of Architecture has spent nearly two years updating the building’s ground floor spaces. The indoor lobby will be home to the upscale eatery that will include a who’s-who list of Austin restaurants: Antonelli’s Cheese Shop, Contigo, a taqueria from Dai Due, a third location of Easy Tiger, and two new concepts from Emmer & Rye.
