$15M East Austin Hotel Breaks Ground (RENDERINGS)
East Austin is experiencing surge in hospitality projects under construction with the announcement that Jordan Foster Construction broke ground this week on the East Austin Hotel project at the corner of 6th and Waller. It is the second hotel project to break ground this month on the East side, following the 83-room Arrive Hotel half a mile to the east at 6th & Chicon.
Austin-based La Corsha Hospitality Group is developing the 6-story, 85,000-sf project on the former site of a food truck park and the first location of Cheer Up Charlie’s (which later became Wonderland). La Corsha also has hotel properties in Marfa and Big Spring, as well as restaurants Second Bar + Kitchen and Boiler Nine.
According to Jordan Foster’s website, the hotel will have two levels of underground parking, a restaurant, a central courtyard pool and bar, as well as 26 cabana-type lodging rooms “for the passing traveler who doesn’t want to incur the full price of a regular guest room”. It is scheduled to be completed in August 2018.
Redevelopment of this site has been in the works since at least 2011, when the initial permit applications were filed with the City of Austin. A site development permit was first issued for this project in 2015, but a change in the development and architecture teams pushed the start of the project back to 2017. Austin-based Rhode:Partners is providing architectural services for the project.
