Downtown Construction Update: May 2017 (PHOTOS)

One of the most popular features on BuildingATX is our periodic photo update featuring some of the major projects under construction in downtown Austin. There are lots of projects underway to be excited about — here’s a snapshot of what’s happening downtown as of May 2017:

A peek over the fence at Fareground at One Eleven Congress reveals a deck being built around a large heritage tree. Along with massive upgrades to lobby and plaza space, Fareground is being billed as Austin’s first food hall.

There is a new cluster of tower cranes just west of the new 500 West 2nd Street office building. Two belong to Third + Shoal, and one is for the Austin Proper hotel.

A view from the opposite direction (Austin Proper in the foreground, Third + Shoal in the middle of the frame) illustrates the proximity to the skyline-changing Independent condo tower rising in the background.

A closer look at The Independent.

It looks like the 2nd Street bridge is ready to go. But are city officials waiting for the New Central Library to open before it gets any use?

A tower crane looms over the Westview project at 316 W. 12th Street. It will bring nearly 100,000 sf of office space to the CBD by the end of the year.

The Ronnie Earle Building finally rising at 11th & San Antonio.

The 5th & West condo tower appears to be up to the 11th level.

And don’t forget about Shoal Creek Walk. It’s starting to make its presence known at 6th & Bowie…

… check out these crazy lines! It will definitely be an interesting facade.
