22-Story Skyloft Prepares to Break Ground in West Campus

Luxury apartments are coming to the University of Texas, giving students more options for housing near campus. Skyloft, a project by Austin-based developer Johnson Trube & Associates, will house 212 units with a mix of one to four bedroom floorplans for a total of 677 beds. Project team members include architectural firms Mark Hart Architecture and STG Design and JE Dunn Construction. The 22 story development will be located at 507 West 23rd Street at Nueces Street.

Some of the best amenities in the area will be at Skyloft and include a rooftop pool, fitness center, 24-hour study lounges, media room, and secure, underground parking. It will also feature intelligent design with state-of-the art HVAC and water systems. Johnson Trube partner Edward Trube says that Skyloft will “be different from everything else in the market.”

“We are bringing together unique architecture, the highest quality construction and superior amenities in the absolute best location for this type of product in the country,” Johnson said.

A portion of the units on the property will be offered as affordable housing to ensure that it is open to students of varying income levels.

The project will be built on the site where the historical Dabney-Horne house currently stands, as Austin City Council recently approved an amendment to a restrictive covenant on the property. Dabney-Horne house, which was home to one of UT’s first professors, according to the Austin Business Journal, will be moved to a nearby lot at 901 Shoal Cliff Court and restored.
