Austin B-Cycle Wraps Up Expansion
Just in time for SXSW, which will go into full swing with the Interactive portion of the festival on March 7, Austin B-cycle has finished an expansion that’s brought a total of 40 bike share stations to downtown Austin and surrounding areas.
With the expansion, which wrapped up on March 1, Austin B-cycle now has 400 bikes around Austin. New station locations include Barton Springs, 7th St. & Red River St., and East 11th St. & San Marcos St.
Austin B-cycle hit the streets on December 21 with an initial 11 stations, making Austin one of 18 cities to launch a bike share system in 2013. In B-cycle’s first month, Austinites took 3,880 trips, an average of 115 bike share trips daily, and purchased nearly 2,000 day passes and 7-day passes.
According to Movability Austin, the most-used B-cycle stations in Austin so far are: the City Hall station at Lavaca St. & 2nd St., the Capitol station at Congress Ave. & 11th St., and the station at 5th & Bowie.
